Cards speaking to each other

Reinforcement: two or more cards saying a similar thing in different clothes. Three Cups cards is not a mystery. The field is feeling, bond, inner weather. A repeated three is the spread underlining a number.

Contradiction: cards arguing. The Sun beside the Three of Swords. Ten of Pentacles beside The Fool. Do not pick the one you like and silence the other. The argument is the reading.

Complement: cards completing each other. One names the field, the other names the move. Ace of Wands beside Eight of Pentacles can be a spark that needs craft, or craft that has gone dry and wants a spark. Look at which one is in which seat.

Explaining: one card tells you how to read the other. A harsh card explained by an advice card. A pretty card explained by a challenge card that shows the cost.

Facing: who looks at whom. Who looks away. A figure walking toward another card is a different sentence from a figure walking off the table. This is looking, applied across the spread.

Movement: energy travelling. Fast beside still. A Knight riding at a seated Queen. Ask what is arriving, and what is not moving.

Progression: a story going forward. Three, then Four, then Five in a line. Ace toward Ten. The Fool toward a more formed Major. Something is developing.

Regression: a story going backwards, looping, or stalling. A Ten beside an Ace can be a cycle restarting. It can also be a refusal to let the old harvest finish. A figure walking left in a left-to-right spread may be heading into the past of the question. Do not make a religion of direction. Do notice it.

Three of Swords beside the Ten of Pentacles. The wound is in the household, the lineage, the material life. Grief about family. A cut in what was supposed to be the safe place.

Three of Swords beside The Fool. The hurt is tied to a leap, a leaving, a beginning that cost something. Or a beginning that is trying to happen through a grief you have not finished.

Three of Swords beside The Sun. Contradiction, or a sequence. The truth hurts and there is still warmth. Or the brightness is the thing you are using to avoid the rain. Position and first impression decide which.

I am not giving you three captions to file. I am showing you that the neighbour is part of the verb.
