Lesson 08

Energetic boundaries

Reading without taking on what is not yours.

Observe first. Interpret second. Research third.

Reading without taking on what is not yours. This matters for self-readings too. You can drown in your own story just as easily as in someone else's.

What belongs where

When you read for someone else, their life is theirs. You offer a look. You do not take the bag home. You do not become their therapist, their parent, or their fortune-teller-on-call.

When you read for yourself, the cards can hook the wound you already live in. That is useful, if you notice it. It is messy if you do not.

Practically: decide the time, decide the question, decide when you are done. Do not keep pulling until you feel better. Feeling better is not the job of a fifth spread.

How to hold an energetic boundary

Energetic, here, still means practice, not a force-field you have to get right. It means: I know where I end. I know where this reading ends.

Say no to questions that are not yours to answer: other people's medical lives, someone else's secret will, spying. Say no to reading when you are not fit. Say no to the extra card that is really a plea.

Aftercare is a boundary. Window, wash, walk, tea, journal, stop. Choose two and actually do them.

The fifth spread

You did three cards. You did not like the weather. You pull another spread. Then another. By the fifth you are not reading. You are bargaining. A boundary would have been: this is the reading, I will journal, I will not ask again today. That is respect for you and for the tool.

Activity

Your aftercare

Write what you will do after a reading for someone else, and after a raw self-reading. Simple is good. Window, wash, walk, tea, journal, stop.

Practice

One spread, then stop

Do one three-card spread on a real question. Write the reading. Close the deck. Do your aftercare. Do not pull a clarifier. Journal the urge to pull more, if it arrives. That urge is the lesson.

Open the practice

Reflection

Where do you bargain with the cards instead of having a boundary, and what are you hoping the extra pull will spare you from feeling?
