Houses

Traditional teaching maps twelve houses as twelve areas of living. First: the I, the body, how you enter a room. Second: money, value, what you have. Third: talk, siblings, the short road. Fourth: home, roots, the private floor. Fifth: making, play, children, what you put on stage. Sixth: work of the day, craft, the body as a job. Seventh: the other, contracts, the person across the table. Eighth: shared resources, intimacy, what is under the floor. Ninth: belief, the far road, study. Tenth: vocation, the hill, how you are seen. Eleventh: friends, the future, the group. Twelfth: the unseen, rest, the room behind the room.

That is a common map, not a law, and not a medical or fate claim. I did not invent it. Use it only when it names something you can already see.

A card is already sitting in a life area. Ten of Pentacles is a household. Two of Cups is the other. Eight of Pentacles is the day's craft. House language is a way of saying that room out loud. It is not a reason to fetch a chart software.

Ask: which room of life is this card standing in, given this question. If you know houses, you may name the house. If you do not, name the room in ordinary words. Home. Work. The other. The inner life. Ordinary words are still reading.

When a spread already has positions, the position is the house for that seat. Past, advice, you, them. Do not stack a twelfth-house lecture on top of a clear advice card unless it actually adds.

A clean extra sentence. This is a home question. This is a vocation hill. This is about the other, not only about you. The card stays in the picture. The house only names the room.

Casting a whole chart because you are frightened of the image. Reducing a person to a house. Fortune-telling with a rising sign. Performing twelve rooms so the reading looks complete.

If you cannot say the life area without the house number, you do not need the house number. The image is still there. This school would rather you read the card than decorate it.

Four of Wands on a love question. You can say threshold, home, a rite at the door. If you know houses, fourth-house flavour may help you say private life, not a public parade. If you then hunt the querent's Venus house to prove it, you have left the table. Stay with the wreath and the two figures.
