Protection
Protective rituals
A ritual, here, is a repeatable container. Arrive, work, leave. You may keep something small and true of your own, as long as it actually starts and actually stops.
What this is
Open: ground, name the question, shuffle until the question is in your hands, pause before the first interpretation. Work: the Method. Close: restack, a sentence that the reading is finished, aftercare. That container is protection.
Why it matters
Readings that never close leak into dinner, into sleep, into the next person's table. A ritual that makes you frightened of every room is not protection. It is marketing.
How to recognise it
You will really do it when you are tired. It takes under a few minutes. It does not require a shop. If you skip it, you notice the leak. That is a working ritual.
How to use it
Write two or three sentences to open, two or three to close. Use them. Do not keep a card out on the desk all week unless you have chosen that as a study, not as a leak. Say no to readings you are not fit to do.
Light
A habit of arrival and leaving. Respect for you and for the tool. Ordinary words.
Shadow
A rite so long you never begin. Superstition. Ritual as a way to feel attacked if you skip a step. Performance.
Example
Open: feet, question out loud, shuffle. Close: thank the table if that is true in your mouth, cards in the box, wash a mug. You still felt grey after a grief reading, so you walked. The ritual held. It did not have to be a war.
Practice
Write a container
Two or three sentences to open. Two or three to close. Use them around one reading today. Then write: did I arrive, did I leave, or did I leak?
