Why a correspondence exists
Observe first. Interpret second. Research third.
Do not simply learn: this card equals this zodiac sign. Learn why a correspondence exists. Or leave it.
A common system used with Rider-Waite-Smith decks comes from Golden Dawn teaching. I am teaching it as a thinking tool, not as my private invention, and not as the only true map.
Why links exist at all
People who designed and developed this style of deck were steeped in astrology, number, and ceremonial symbolism. They built bridges on purpose. A ram on The Emperor's throne is not an accident in many decks. A lion with Strength is not an accident. Scales with Justice are not an accident.
The link is often: shared image, shared myth, shared elemental weather. Leo and Strength both work with solar courage and the animal self. Libra and Justice both work with balance and a decision that wants to be fair. Virgo and The Hermit both work with discernment, harvest, the lamp of careful seeing.
When a correspondence is doing that job, it strengthens something already in the card. That is the only good reason to speak it.
Think with a few Majors, do not memorise a dump
The Magician and Mercury: hands, tools, speech, directed mind. If the card is about making contact and shaping will, Mercury can name that. If the card, in this question, is about a con, Mercury's shadow can name that too.
The High Priestess and the Moon: hidden knowing, tide, the veil. Useful when the reading is about what is not said. Useless when you use it to sound mysterious.
The Empress and Venus: body, garden, relating, value, the fertile. Useful when the card is about making and nourishing. Not useful as a fertility guarantee.
The Wheel and Jupiter: expansion, luck-as-cycle, meaning that gets bigger. Useful when the spread is about a turn. Not useful as a lottery ticket.
Death and Scorpio: necessary ending, compost, what goes to the root. Useful when the card is about a true finish. Not useful as a threat.

Strength and Leo
A common link. Fire. Fixed. Heart. The lion. The woman. Infinity at the head. The work is not I know this is Leo. The work is: this card is meeting raw force with dignity. Pride and tenderness in the same gesture. Solar courage that does not need to roar.
If that sentence helps the question, the correspondence earned its keep. If you only said Leo and moved on, you used trivia. Trivia is not reading.
