When to use it, when not to
Observe first. Interpret second. Research third.
Do not force an astrological story onto every spread. Use it when it is speaking. Leave it when the cards are already clear.
This lesson is the discipline. Without it, the last three lessons become a party trick.
When it is useful
When the image already carries the correspondence: rams, lions, scales, moons, solar discs. You are naming what is drawn.
When it names a quality you were reaching for and could not quite say. Saturn can be a clean word for backbone and limit if The Devil or The World is on the table and time is the issue.
When the same planetary or elemental weather is stacking across the spread, which you will practise next.
When the querent already lives in that language, and using it would help them hear the reading. Translation is kindness. Showing off is not.
Houses, if you already know them, can name a room of life: the I, money, home, the other, the public hill. This school does not train you to cast a chart. If the card is clearly about a life area and the house language helps you say it, use it. If you do not know houses, skip them. You are not behind. The picture still has a room in it.
When to leave it alone
When you would have to fetch a list to remember the link. If it is not living in you yet, do not perform it.
When the question is practical and the cards are practical. A job, a conversation, a grief. You do not need a rising sign to say what the Three of Pentacles is doing.
When it would let you avoid the image. Astrology as a hiding place is still hiding.
When it would become fortune-telling about a person because of their sun sign. We do not do that here.
When two systems argue and you do not actually understand either. Silence is better than a fake fact.
A job question, two versions
Three cards: Ace of Pentacles, Eight of Pentacles, Six of Wands. You can read seed, craft, recognition without a single planet. That is a good reading.
If you also notice earth, earth, then fire, you may say: this wants to land in the real world, and then be seen. Element helped. If you then drag Capricorn and Leo onto the table because you once saw them on a chart, you have left the reading and entered a lecture. Stop at the sentence that served the question.
Practice
Two passes, one spread
Do a three-card spread on a real question. First pass: no astrology at all. Image, number, suit, energy, question. Write the reading. Second pass: add only what you actually understand and can see. If the second pass did not change the advice, note that. That is discernment. Save both in the journal.

Practise leaving it
Name a card you always drag astrology onto. Write the reading you would give if you were not allowed to mention a planet or a sign. If that reading is weaker, the astrology was doing real work. If it is the same, you have a habit, not a tool.
