Course/Chakras and Body Awareness/The seven centres
Part 01
Root
Observe first. Interpret second. Research third.
The theme
Root, in the seven-centre map, is the ground. Survival. Safety. Belonging to a body and a place. Money, home, food, the right to exist. The question underneath: am I allowed to be here?
This is an educational map, not a medical claim. If your legs hurt, that is a body. It might also be a week of fear about rent. Do not diagnose a chakra. Notice a theme.
Root light is often boring to people who wanted fireworks. Paying a bill. Eating. Sleeping in your own bed. That boredom is the point. A spiritual life that will not touch the floor is not a spiritual life. It is a balloon.
Where people point
In this educational map, people usually point to the base of the spine, the sitting bones, the legs and the feet. Use that as a reminder of ground, not as a medical fact about your body.
You might notice the chair under you, or the lack of it. You might notice a need to lock the door, or a need to leave the room. Pointing is a map. It is not a diagnosis.
Colour in this map
Red is the traditional teaching colour in this map. Earth, blood, brick, a floor you can see. It is a memory aid, not a medical fact, and it is not a rule for your clothes.
If red never speaks to you, you can still work with root as ground. Colour is a teaching tool. It's not a test.
Body awareness
People often point to the base of the spine, sitting bones, legs, feet. You might feel planted, or like you have no floor. You might notice hunger, cold, a need to leave the room, a need to lock the door.
A tingle is not a message. A numb foot might be how you have been sitting. Check the chair before you check the cosmos.
Light
Enough. A floor. Practical care. The dignity of a body that is allowed to take up space. Work and money treated as part of a spiritual life, not as a lesser room.
Root light can look like a meal, a paid bill, a walk, a night in your own bed. It can look like asking for help with the material, without calling that unspiritual.
Shadow
Panic about survival as the only weather. Hoarding. Collapse. Refusing the body. Calling money unspiritual so you never have to look at it. Root as a bunker.
Shadow also lives in spiritual people who will not deal with rent, and in people who grip the material world so hard there is no room for anything else. Both are the same house with the lights changed.
Nourishing foods in this map
Some traditions pair this centre with root vegetables, beetroot, carrots, potatoes, protein-rich meals, and red foods such as apples or tomatoes. That pairing is a way of paying attention to ground and enough. It is not medicine. Eating them will not physically heal a chakra.
Eat like a person. If you cook a potato with attention, you are practising ground. If you eat a potato as a spell, you have missed the point. Do not treat a fruit as a cure.
Practices you can actually do
Meditation: sit and feel the sitting bones and the feet for one minute. Nothing fancy. You are here.
Visualisation: roots from the feet into the floor. Keep it ordinary. A chair is enough earth.
Movement: a walk. Stand and feel both feet. Stretch the legs. Cook a proper meal. Sort one pile of post. Material tasks are root work.
Reflection: journal what enough would look like in ordinary terms this week. Money, food, sleep, a room. Then do one practical action.
Energy work and self-care: hold a stone if you have one. Put a hand on the lower belly and the feet. Then eat, rest, or pay the thing you have been avoiding. Care that never touches the week is not root care.
How this can meet tarot
Pentacles as a suit often visit this territory. Four of Pentacles. Five of Pentacles. Ten of Pentacles. The Emperor as structure you can stand in. The Fool when there is no floor yet. If a reading keeps talking about home, money, or whether you are allowed to exist, you may be in root territory. A tingle is not a diagnosis.
Five of Pentacles, outside the window
Snow, crutches, stained glass, two figures. Belonging, hardship, body, the inside you cannot quite enter. You can name root theme without saying the word chakra at all. If naming the centre helps you remember this is about ground, use it. If it becomes a medical story, put it down.

Practice
Feet, then a card
Feel your feet on the floor for one minute. Then pull one card and ask: what is this saying about ground, safety, or enough? If the card is not in that territory, say so. Do not drag root onto The Star because you felt your heels.
