Part 11
Ten
Observe first. Interpret second. Research third.
What this quality is
Ten is completion. A cycle done. Harvest. A load. A family under a rainbow. A figure with too many wands. A body with too many swords. A house of lineage and coins. It is the end of Ace-through-nine, and it already contains the seed of the next one.
The Wheel of Fortune is ten as cycle made visible: what goes up, what comes round. The World is a later, larger completion. Ten in the Minors is the suit's own full stop, which may feel like home, or like too much.
Why it matters
If you only hear happy ending you will miss the Ten of Wands and the Ten of Swords. If you only hear doom you will miss the Ten of Cups and the Ten of Pentacles. Ten is not a mood. It is a quantity: the suit at capacity.
Ten also teaches you that completion is not the same as death of the story. Completing seeds one. The next Ace is already implied. That is hope without sugar.
How to recognise it
A lot. Ten of the object, or a scene that feels like the whole novel of the suit. Rainbows. Overloaded backs. A figure face-down. Generations in a courtyard. The sense that nothing more of this kind can be added.
Ask: is this a harvest to thank, a load to put down, an ending to let be true, or a legacy to step into? The picture knows more than the word completion.
How it changes by suit
Ten of Wands: the load. A figure, ten wands, a town ahead. Fire at capacity. Responsibility, success that became burden, the last stretch. Completion as too much to carry in this form.
Ten of Cups: emotional completion as home and belonging. Rainbow, family, house. Water at capacity for connection. Light: true fulfilment. Shadow: the postcard family, pressure to be happy now.
Ten of Swords: the end of a mental story. Dawn still happening. Face down. Air at capacity for pain, betrayal, or a thought-world that has finished. Light: it is actually over. Shadow: identifying with the ending forever.
Ten of Pentacles: lineage, wealth, the long game of earth. People, dogs, a courtyard, coins in the architecture. Completion as a house that outlives a mood. Light: legacy. Shadow: gilded cage, family system as law.
Light
Harvest. A true end. Belonging. Legacy. The relief of done. Putting the wands down. Letting a story be over. Completing so a new one can start.
Shadow
Overload. A pile that is too heavy. Finishing as dumping. Refusing to start again. The family myth. Staying face-down after the night has already ended. Calling a cage a legacy.
Ten of Wands, the town is close
He is overloaded. That is true. The town is also right there. Traditional burden is fair. Then ask whether this ten wants you to drop two wands, ask for help, or arrive and put the whole bundle down.
Completion that seeds one: after this card, the next honest Ace might be rest, or a smaller fire, or a no. Ten is not a demand to keep carrying.

Capacity of each suit
Lay the four Tens. For each write: what has reached capacity, what needs putting down, and what Ace might be seeded if this actually completed. Then look at The Wheel and The World. Write how ten in a Minor is different from those larger cycles. One paragraph is enough.
