Major Arcana
Observe first. Interpret second. Research third.
The Major Arcana are the big weather. Not more important than the Minors. Different.
Twenty-two cards. The Fool at zero through The World at twenty-one. Archetypal themes. Thresholds. Tests. Turning points. The sort of energy that rearranges a chapter.
Archetypes, not cartoons
When I say archetype I do not mean a costume. I mean a pattern of human experience so old and so repeated that it has a face: will, inner knowing, empire, choice, solitude, ending, binding, rupture, completion. The Majors are those faces, painted.
A Major in a spread often feels larger in the room than a numbered Minor. The question is not whether it is more spiritual. The question is: what kind of weather just walked in, and why this one, for this question?
You already know, from the last lesson, that they are numbered. In the next module we will walk them as a connected sequence, the map readers have long called the Fool's Story. Do not skip ahead and turn it into a cartoon journey. Learn them first as a set: twenty-two big weathers that belong together.
Not a holier deck inside the deck
People skip Minors because they want destiny, and they inflate every Major into a prophecy. Then their readings feel theatrical and untrue.
A Magician can be about a sales pitch this week. A Tower can be a lie coming down in a meeting. A World can be a project that actually finished. Big weather can sit on ordinary ground. Honour the size without leaving the planet.
The Hermit in an ordinary week
Traditional weather: solitude, inner light, withdrawal, seeking. In a reading about a noisy family Christmas, The Hermit might be a need to step out of the room, not a calling to become a mystic.
Same archetype. Different scale. That is how Majors work in real lives. Learn the archetype. Then let the question set the volume.
Practice
Three Majors. No book.
Pull three Major Arcana, or pick three from the library. Look at them as a group. What kind of weather is this? What repeats? What feels like a threshold? Write before you look anything up. Then visit the Tarot Library and see what you already knew without a caption.

From memory, write as many Major names as you can in order, starting with The Fool. Do not cheat. Then check. The gaps are your next looking, not a failure. We will walk the order properly in the Fool's Story.
