Minor Arcana

People skip the Minors because they want destiny. Then they wonder why their readings feel theatrical and untrue. A good reader can sit with a Five and tell you what is actually going on, not just what a poster said about fives.

Each Minor is built from three things you can learn: suit, number or court rank, and image. Suit tells you the field. Number tells you the stage of a story. Image tells you how this deck is speaking that stage. That is a complete sentence waiting to be read.

The Minors will take more of your study time than the Majors, because there are more of them, and because they are subtle. Good. Subtle is where skill lives.

A Ten of Swords can floor a person. A Three of Cups can save a week. An Ace of Pentacles can start a livelihood. Do not hear minor and think unimportant.

Hear it as: this is the language of circumstance, habit, relationship, work, argument, appetite, craft. The Majors name the archetype. The Minors tell you how it is showing up in the kitchen.

The Tower can be the rupture. The Five of Pentacles can be the cold bit after: two figures in the snow, a lit window they are not inside, the felt sense of being left out of warmth and resource.

If you only read Majors, you get the lightning. If you can read the Five of Pentacles, you can speak the human bit: isolation, money fear, body in weather, a church window that may or may not be a refuge. That is why the Minors are not optional.
