Course/Universal Laws

Lesson 03

Distortion and discernment

How a law is misunderstood, and how not to use it as a blunt instrument.

Observe first. Interpret second. Research third.

A law can be lived. It can also be twisted. This is the bit most spiritual courses skip because it makes people uncomfortable.

If a spiritual principle lets you off the hook of kindness, honesty, or responsibility, you are not using a law. You are using a shield.

How a principle gets bent

You can take a beautiful idea about energy and use it to blame someone for their own suffering. You can take a beautiful idea about manifestation and use it to avoid grief. You can take a beautiful idea about mirrors and decide everyone else is just your homework. You can take oneness and drop every boundary. You can take rhythm and abandon someone in a trough. You can take inspired action and grind yourself to powder, or never move.

That is distortion. Distortion, not disaster. The law did not curse anyone. A person used a principle as a stick, a hiding place, or a throne.

Attraction, one more time

I am repeating this because it is the distortion I see most. The Law of Attraction, twisted, says: you attracted this, so it is your fault. Illness, poverty, harm, grief. That is cruelty dressed as spirituality. It also ignores other people's will, history, luck, and the body.

Taught cleanly, attraction asks what you are feeding and which door you are standing in. It never gets to close the hospital, the refuge, or the ordinary human no.

If you catch yourself about to say they manifested this in a reading, stop. Read the card. Stay kind. Stay specific. Stay in the actual life.

How to discern in a reading

If a law helps you understand the spread, keep it. If it makes the spread smaller, drop it. If it makes you feel superior, drop it twice.

Ask: does this principle increase honesty and choice, or does it increase shame and fate? Shame and fate are not the Method.

The cards are still there. So is the question. So are you. A law is a lens. Lenses can be put down.

Two sentences, only one is allowed

Five of Pentacles. Sentence one: you are outside the window, and the reading is about belonging, hardship, and whether you will ask for help. Sentence two: you attracted exclusion because of your vibration. Sentence one is a reading. Sentence two is a distortion of vibration and attraction. Do not offer sentence two. Not to a client. Not to yourself.

Practice

Catch the twist

Pick one law you personally like. Write its clean use in a reading, in one sentence. Write its twisted use, in one sentence. Then pull a card and practise only the clean sentence. If the twist arrives in your mouth, write that down. That is the real homework.

Reflection

Where have you used a spiritual idea to avoid looking at something ordinary and human?
