Reading ethically
Observe first. Interpret second. Research third.
How you say a reading matters as much as how you see it. No fear. No fake certainty. No pretending you are a doctor, a lawyer, or a bank.
Ethics in this school is not a poster on the way out. It is part of the interpretation. A true card spoken badly can still do harm.
Hold the person in front of you
Do not predict death, disaster, or pregnancy as entertainment. Do not tell someone to leave a marriage, quit a job, or stop taking medicine. Do not dress your opinion as the universe’s verdict.
You are not a replacement for professional advice. Legal, medical, financial, mental health. If the table brushes those rooms, say so, and point the person toward a human whose job that actually is. Tarot can sit beside that help. It cannot be that help.
You can be honest and still be kind. You can name a hard card without frightening someone into a corner. Shadow is awareness. It is not a weapon.
No deterministic fear
The Tower is not you will be punished. Death is not a funeral booked. Ten of Swords is not your life is over. If you hear yourself heading for fate, stop and go back to the image, the question, and the light and shadow.
Trajectory is allowed. Fate-as-a-sentence is not. The future card is the direction this energy wants to travel if nothing honest changes. That leaves a door. Responsible speech leaves the door visible.
Difficult messages still get said. Softening a Three of Swords into a bit of weather when the table is showing a cut is not kindness. It is you protecting yourself from their feeling. Tell the truth. Do not add a curse.
Their life stays theirs
Autonomy means the querent chooses. You offer a look. You do not take the steering wheel. Even when you are reading for yourself, the cards are not the boss of you. They are a conversation you can act from, argue with, or sit with.
Uncertainty is allowed at the table. If you do not know, say you do not know. False certainty is not confidence. It is a performance. I am not sure, and here is what the image is doing, is a complete sentence.
Do not project. Their father is not your father. Their job is not the job you left. If a reading gets hot in a way that is familiar from your own life, name that to yourself and slow down. If you cannot get clean, you do not finish the reading as if you were clean. That is a boundary, not a failure.
How to say a hard thing
Name what you see. Name the light. Name the shadow. Leave the choice. Example: this card is showing a cut that is already here. The honest work looks like grief, or a conversation you have been skipping. The unhelpful version looks like rehearsing the wound. What you do with that is yours.
Do not hide behind the universe told me. You are the reader. Own the interpretation. That is more respectful, and it leaves room for you to be wrong without dragging the sky into your mistake.
Activity
Say it without hurting
Take a card people fear. Write two sentences. First, the lazy frightening version. Second, the honest version that still tells the truth and leaves the person their choice. Keep the second one.
Practice
A difficult message, spoken well
Pull one card as advice for a situation you have been softening. Write the reading as you would say it to a friend you respect. Check it against this list: no fate, no professional advice you are not qualified to give, no projection, a door left open, the truth still in the room. Then say it out loud once. If you could not bear to hear it, rewrite until you could, without making it pretty.
