Colour as a layer

Notice which colour you see first. Which colours repeat. Which colour dominates. Which colour contrasts with everything else. What the colour is attached to. What emotion it creates. What energy it creates. Whether it feels light or heavy. Whether it feels supportive or uncomfortable. Whether it connects to another card in the spread.

Then ask: why am I being drawn to this colour?

A red cloak on a walking figure is not the same red as a red heart pierced by swords, and neither is the same red as a small red shoe. Attachment, size, and company change the colour. That is investigation. Red equals passion is homework.

Students love gold and skip grey. Grey is doing a job. On the Three of Swords it is almost the whole climate. On the Eight of Swords it is the weather of the bind. On some Pentacles it is stone, weight, a town.

Black is not automatically evil. White is not automatically pure. Gold is not automatically money or God. Ask what the colour is attached to, and what it is doing to the rest of the picture.

Magician: red in the robe, often, heat of will, a body ready to work. Three of Swords: red as the heart, the only warm thing, which is also the wounded thing. Devil: red as torch or as skin, appetite, a heat that binds.

If you had said red means passion on all three, you would have been a little bit right and mostly lazy. The pictures were more specific than your chart.
