Thought, speech, hands, messages, the movement of information.

Mercury is contact. Mind that can move. A conversation, a note, a joining of dots. Cleverness is only one face.

What this is

Speech, thought, trade, travel of ideas, the hands as tools of mind. A common map sits Mercury with The Magician, and with Gemini and Virgo weather. Hands, tools, directed word.

Why it matters

Readings live in language. Mercury is how a thought becomes a sentence, or a spin. If you cannot tell contact from chatter, you will talk a spread to death.

How to recognise it

Hands, tools, birds, messages, crossed thoughts, a Page with news, a Magician's table, a question about the email you will not send.

How to use it

Ask what is being communicated, and whether it is landing. Say: clean contact, or spin. If the card is about a con, Mercury's shadow can name that too. The picture wins.

Light

Clear conversation. A mind that can move. Hands that make the thought real. Translation that helps someone hear.

Shadow

Spin. Overthinking. Cleverness that will not land. Chatter. Talking so you do not have to feel. A message used as a blade.

Example

The Magician with a question about a difficult conversation. Mercury-like: you have tools, you can make contact, the will is in the hands. Shadow: a slick speech that never tells the truth. Look at the figure's face before you praise the toolkit.

Practice

Contact or spin

Pull a card for a message you have not sent. Write whether the energy is clean contact or spin. Point to the image. Do not mention Mercury in the final sentence unless it earned its keep.
