Cleansing
Space, deck, and self
Clearing you, the space, the tools. After you have read for someone else. After a raw self-reading. When the cards have sat in a bag in a loud week.
What this is
Three jobs that get lumped together. The room: table, light, air, phones. The deck: shuffle with attention, a cloth, time in a quiet place. You: hands, breath, a sentence, food. They are related. They are not one panic.
Why it matters
If you only clear the deck, you may still bring a jagged day to the table. If you only clear yourself, you may still read in a thick room. If you fuss all three as a moral test, you will never begin.
How to recognise it
Ask which container is actually loud. Hungry you. A messy table. A deck that has been in a festival bag. Do that one first. You are trainable. Ritual teaches the nervous system that you are starting.
How to use it
A simple sequence: open a window if you can, tidy the table, wash your hands, shuffle with the question in your mouth. After: cards away, hands, window, a drink of water. If you used smoke or sound, fine. If you did not, you still cleared. You marked an end.
Light
A container that lets you look. Tools handled with attention. A self that can start and stop.
Shadow
Fright about residue. Clearing as a way never to begin. Treating the deck as haunted. Treating yourself as a problem to be solved before you are allowed to practise.
Example
The deck is fine. You are exhausted. Clearing the cards again will not help. Food, a window, a no to reading for someone else tonight. That is clearing the right container.
Practice
Which container
Write how you currently clear yourself, the space, and the deck, if you do. Then write what is theatre, and what actually helps you feel clear. Keep the second list. Let the first list get smaller. Do the simple sequence once around one card.
