Meditation

Before sleep

The day is down. The cards are down. A few breaths so the night is not a second reading room.

Meditation before sleep is closing the house. You are not trying to have a vision. You are letting the nervous system clock off.

What this is

Lie or sit. Feel the weight of the body in the bed. Breathe out longer than you breathe in. When a replay arrives, name it thinking, come back to the mattress. Look at nothing in particular.

Why it matters

Readings that never close leak into sleep. So do rows, and so does the wish for a sign. A short sit is how you do not live inside the spread until morning. Nine of Swords weather loves an unclosed day.

How to recognise it

You are still pulling cards at midnight. You are arguing in the dark. You are hunting a last number. Those are tells that the close did not happen.

How to use it

Deck away. Phone away if you can. Three to ten slower breaths. One sentence: this day is finished. If a feeling is loud, let it be in the body without making a plot. Sleep is allowed to be the practice.

Light

A night that can restore. Dreams that are not homework. A reader who can put the gift down.

Shadow

A spiritual sit so effortful you never sleep. Midnight spreads. Using the dark as a second Practice Room. Fear of missing a message.

Example

You want one more card about tomorrow. Before-sleep practice is: the reading was this afternoon, the deck is in the box, the mattress is here. Morning can have a card if morning still wants one.

Practice

Deck away, then breath

Tonight, put the cards away before you get into bed. Take six slower breaths, longer on the way out. Write in the morning whether the night felt less like a second table. No midnight pull.

Open the practice

Reflection

What do you take to bed that belongs on the table, or in the journal, or in tomorrow?
