Meditation
Tea
Meditation in this school is practical. You are not trying to become someone who lives on a cushion. You are getting quiet enough to hear yourself. A cup of tea can be the whole sit.
What this is
Waiting for the kettle. Holding a warm mug. Noticing steam, scent, the first sip. When a thought arrives, you notice it and come back to the cup. That is the muscle.
Why it matters
If meditation only counts on a cushion, you will never do it on a workday. Tea is a practice you already have. Use it on purpose.
How to recognise it
You are with the mug, or you are in the argument in your head while the tea goes cold. Coming back to the heat in your hands is the sit, not a fail.
How to use it
Make the tea. Sit. Three slower breaths. Feel the cup. Drink. If you are about to read, this can be the arrive. If you have just read, this can be the close. No speech required.
Light
Warmth. A pause that is actually a pause. Attention that can stay with something ordinary.
Shadow
Scrolling while it steeps. Calling a caffeine hit a practice. Using the cup to delay a conversation. Never sitting because the tea is not ceremonial enough.
Example
You want to pull a fifth spread. You put the kettle on instead. By the time the tea is drunk, the hunger has a name, and the deck can stay in the box. Often the sitting is the reading.
Practice
One cup, then maybe a card
Make a cup of tea or another warm drink. Sit with it until it is half gone, no phone. Then decide whether you still need a card. If you pull one, write the first thing you receive. If you do not, write what the tea showed you instead.
