Meditation
Walking
A walk can be arriving, closing, or the whole practice. You do not need a forest. A loop to the shop counts.
What this is
Feeling the feet hit the ground. Letting the breath find a pace. When a thought arrives, name it once and come back to the next step. Looking at ordinary things: a bin, a hedge, a bus.
Why it matters
Some minds will not sit. They will walk. That is not a lesser path. After a reading, walking is how many people leave someone else's weather in the chair.
How to recognise it
You are in the street, or you are only in the story. Coming back to the heel and the ball of the foot is the practice. Headphones optional. If the podcast is a hide, try one loop without it.
How to use it
Before a reading: a short loop, then the table. After: a loop, then the house. During a loud emotion: walk until you can feel your feet and name one object. Then decide about cards.
Light
Rhythm. A body that belongs to a place. Thoughts that can pass like buses.
Shadow
Marching as punishment. Walking so you never have to sit with a feeling. Speed as avoidance. Using the walk to rehearse the argument.
Example
A spread has sat on you. You walk to the end of the road and back. You name three things you see. You are back. The reading can stay in the journal.
Practice
A loop, then look
Walk for a few minutes with attention on your feet. No extra story. Then, if you want, pull one card and write the first thing you receive. If you do not want a card, write what the walk returned you to.
