Protection

Closing down

This is the reading. I am putting the cards away. I am back in the room. The close is the protection most people skip.

When the interpretation is said, stop. Thank the table if that helps you. Put the cards away. Feel your feet. Look at the room. One minute is enough.

What this is

A deliberate end. Opening can be: I am here, this is the question, I will look honestly. Closing can be: this is the reading, I am putting the cards away, I am back in the room. Use it for self-readings too.

Why it matters

Readings that never end leak. Aftercare is not a spa. It is returning to ordinary awareness so you do not live inside the spread until next Tuesday. If you read for someone else, this close is part of not carrying them home.

How to recognise it

You will know you skipped it when the spread is still running at dinner. You will know you did it when you can look at a mug and it is only a mug.

How to use it

Restack. A sentence. Hands. Room. Tea, a window, a wash of the hands, a walk. Simple. Write one sentence about coming back if the reading was raw. That sentence is a boundary on paper.

Light

A clean edge. The work stays on the table. You get your evening back.

Shadow

Leaving cards out as a leak. Picking the reading all night. Closing words you do not mean. Never stopping because stopping would mean feeling.

Example

You finish a three-card spread. You want a clarifier. Closing would be: this is the reading. You put the deck in the box. You wash a mug. The urge sits in the journal, not in a fourth pull.

Practice

Close down

After a reading or a practice, sit for one minute. Thank the table if that is true in your mouth. Feel your feet. Look at something ordinary in the room. Write one sentence about coming back. Do not pull another card.

Reflection

What would a real close give you back that leaking the spread into the evening takes?
