Protection
Not carrying what is not yours
If someone else's pain sits on you after a reading, that is a boundary issue. Deal with it as practice, not as a horror film.
What this is
Other people's stories stick if you do not close. That is not possession. That is a nervous system that did a job and was not told it could clock off. You sat in grief with someone. Of course you feel it. Hands, walk, food, the reading is finished.
Why it matters
Carrying is not compassion. Compassion can have a door. If you cannot stop carrying people, that is a boundary practice, not a cleansing product you have not bought yet. You are not failing if you never saw a shadow entity. You are failing if you cannot say no.
How to recognise it
You keep pulling cards to fix them. You replay their table at 3am. You feel grey in their colour, not yours. You want to text a whole second reading. Those are tells.
How to use it
Do the close. Hands. Window. Deck put away. A sentence: this reading is finished, I am back in my own life. Then do something ordinary in your own house. If a particular reading sits on you, journal it once, then stop picking. Picking is not loyalty to the querent. It is you wearing their coat. Talk to a human if you need a human.
Light
Empathy that clocks off. You can text tomorrow. You can care without becoming the bag.
Shadow
Rescue. Wearing their weather as proof you are a good reader. Decorating leftover feeling as an attack. No skin.
Example
You read for a friend in grief. Afterwards you feel grey. Protection is not: I picked up a dark entity. Protection is: I sat in grief with someone, of course I feel it. Hands, walk, food, I will text them tomorrow, I will not keep pulling cards to fix them.
Practice
Put the coat down
Think of a reading, theirs or yours, that you are still wearing. Journal it once. Then write: this is not mine to carry. Do two ordinary acts. Do not pull cards about it today.
