Grounding
Grounding is not theatrics. Feet on the floor. Breath lower than your throat. You are here. The cards are here. The question is here.
What this is
Coming back to weight, breath, and the actual room. Notice the chair. Notice the window. It is spiritual practice in the ordinary sense: you are a person in a body, not a floating interpreter. I am not making a science claim about energy sinking through the soil. I am teaching you not to read from the ceiling.
Why it matters
Ungrounded reading is fast, leaky, and easily hijacked by want. Grounded reading is slower, kinder, and more willing to see what is actually drawn. If you read for others, grounding is part of not taking them home. If you read for yourself, grounding is part of not disappearing into the spread.
How to recognise it
You will know you are ungrounded when you are in your head, in someone else's feelings, or in speed. You will know you have arrived when you can feel your feet and still look at the card.
How to use it
Put both feet on the floor. Feel the contact. Feel the weight of your seat. Drop the shoulders. Breathe out through the mouth once, then three slower breaths, longer on the way out. Name three things you can see, two you can hear, one you can feel. Place a hand on the deck. You are about to look. That is enough.
Light
Arrival. A body that can see. Protection as presence, not as armour you never take off.
Shadow
Grounding as a long rite you use to delay. Floating and calling it intuition. Needing a forest or a crystal before you will admit you have feet.
Example
You grab a card in a hurry after a row. You pull Three of Swords and decide the sky is confirming doom. A ground would have said: I am already in this weather. I will wait, or I will read this as a mirror of now, not as a sentence on the whole future.
Practice
Arrive, then pull
Do the feet, seat, breath, and naming of objects. Do not skip the naming. Then pull one card. Write whether the looking felt different from the last time you grabbed a card in a hurry. If it did not, write that too.
