Protection

Intention

A sentence that starts the work. I will look honestly. I will stop when it is done.

Intention is not theatre. It is the difference between sitting down to look and sitting down to hunt a hug.

What this is

A plain sentence in your mouth. I am here. This is the question. I will look honestly. I will not take this on as identity. Protection begins before the shuffle, in what you are willing to do and not do.

Why it matters

If you desperately want a particular answer, you can still read, but you must write that want down first. Otherwise it will wear the card like a costume. Intention names the want so it cannot pretend to be sight.

How to recognise it

You know the question. You know the time you will stop. You know whether you are fit. That is already protection. A paragraph of ancient forces is optional, and usually extra.

How to use it

Say the sentence. Shuffle until the question is the thing in your hands. If you are not fit to look honestly, do not begin. Rest is allowed. A hungry reading is not a badge.

Light

A true start. Honesty about hunger. A container that can hold a difficult card without bargaining.

Shadow

Grand speeches. Intention as a spell to force a nice table. Skipping the sentence because you already know what you want to hear.

Example

Before a self-reading on a raw week: I will look honestly, I will not take this on as identity, I will stop at one spread. After, you keep that promise. That is protection. The cards did not have to save you from yourself. You did.

Practice

Name the want, then look

Write what you want this next card to say. Then say: I will look honestly. Pull one card. Write what belongs to the want and what belongs to the image.

Reflection

What do you usually intend, really: to see, or to be soothed?
