Protection
Visualisation
If a simple picture helps you feel an edge, use one. Keep it plain. You are not under attack by default.
What this is
An inner image that reminds you where you end. Breath at the edge of your own skin. A closed door. A coat. Feet on the floor as a picture as well as a fact. Protection teaching that makes you frightened of every room is not protection. It is marketing.
Why it matters
Some people need a picture because a sentence is too thin on a loud day. That is allowed. If the picture becomes a ritual you are scared to skip, it has turned into fear.
How to recognise it
The right image leaves you more able to look, not less. The wrong one makes you flinch at empty corners. I will not train you to flinch at empty corners.
How to use it
Before: imagine your own outline, or a door you can shut after. During: if you feel yourself taking on their weather, feel your feet, look at the cards not the panic, remember their life is theirs. After: take the coat off. Choose something ordinary.
Light
A picture that returns you to your skin. Kind, boring, repeatable. Then you do the close in the real room.
Shadow
Battle images. Entities as a hobby. A visualisation so grand you never wash your hands. Fright sold as training.
Example
You imagine a closed door after a friend's grief reading, then you actually leave the room and eat. The picture helped the nervous system. The sandwich finished the job.
Practice
Pick an ordinary image
Choose one image you could still use when tired: a coat, a door, a circle of breath at your skin. Use it before and after one card. If it felt silly, good. Silly and done is better than grand and frightened. Write how it felt.
