Course/Astrology and Tarot/The signs, one by one
Part 08
Scorpio
Observe first. Interpret second. Research third.
What this sign is
Scorpio, in this old language, is a style: water that goes deep. The sting. Bond. What is hidden under the bond. Intensity that will not be managed by a polite hall. Not a spooky sticker. A way an action can wear the underworld of feeling.
You will meet it in a loyalty that could compost a life. A secret. A jealousy that is information. Honesty about power. You will also meet it in a stare that will not let anything die or live. Style. Not a gothic sentence.
Element and modality
Scorpio is fixed water in the common teaching map. Fixed holds. It will not be easily moved. Water is feeling, bond, dream, memory, the tide. Put them together and you get a feeling that stays at the root. A sting. A bond that does not shrug. Depth as a climate, not a weekend.
Hold-the-deep can be devotion. It can also be a jealous guardian of what is dying. If the image is a light conversation, do not invent a crypt.
Why it matters for a reader
Some cards will not be read with manners alone. Death. The Devil. Seven of Swords. A Queen of Cups who is not only kind. Scorpio trains you to stay in the psychological deep without becoming a threat.
It also stops you using intensity as a pose. Depth is not a costume. If nothing is actually at the root, leave the sting in the notebook.
How to recognise it
In life: bonds that remake you, secrets, sex as truth or as control, inheritance, a no that comes from the gut, research that will not stop. Also: testing people. Refusing to let a thing finish. Power played under the table.
In a card: skeletons, white roses, night water, scorpions if the deck draws them, a snake, a still pool with something under it, a figure who will not look away, Eight of Cups as a leaving that is deep. Also: a smile with no surface.
Light
Honesty about power, sex, and ending. Loyalty that can compost. Regeneration. Feeling that goes to the root and comes back with life. A bond that can tell the truth. Courage in the underworld of a life.
Shadow
Control. Jealousy as a climate. Overexpression: only feeling alive in a crisis, or only knowing how to sting. Avoidance: staying pretty, calling the deep negative, skating so nothing has to transform.
How it can meet tarot
A common correspondence links Scorpio with Death. Necessary ending, compost, what goes to the root. That is a traditional teaching map with this deck. Use it when the horse is actually in the psychological deep. If Scorpio would only be a spooky sticker, skip it.
A common modern map also pairs Pluto with Death. Same picture, two doors. You do not need both names in a reading. You need the quality that matches the question: a style of going deep, or the process of transformation itself. Mars is the traditional ruler in the old map. Pluto is the modern one. If heat or compost is already named, do not stack three titles on one skeleton.
When to leave it alone
Leave it when you would scare someone with a sign. Leave it when the spread is a shopping list and you are dragging an underworld in. Leave it if intensity would only be a pose. We do not do gothic captions here. If the image is not at the root, the sign is not speaking.
Death, the deep not a mood
Sit with Death. A skeleton on a white horse. A banner with a white rose. A fallen king. A child. A bishop. A sun between towers. Traditional notes will talk about transformation. Keep the true finish. Then look.
A common link is Scorpio: fixed water, the deep cut, the regenerative, the jealous guardian of what is dying. Useful when a bond has to compost, when intensity will not be managed by Justice's hall. Not useful as a threat, and not useful as a gothic mood. Ask who is the rider, the fallen, the child. The sign named a style of depth. The card is still a landscape with a sunrise. Read both.

Practice
Deep, or just dark
Open Death in the Tarot Library. Write what is actually ending, and what is arriving. Then pull one card for a bond you keep calling intense. Ask if Scorpio weather is in it, or whether you are using depth as a pose. If the card is light and simple, believe it.
