Grounding

Coming back to weight, breath, and the actual room. Feet on the floor. Breath lower than your throat. Notice the chair. Notice the window. You are here. The cards are here. The question is here.

It is spiritual practice in the ordinary sense: you are a person in a body, not a floating interpreter. I am not making a science claim about energy sinking through the soil. I am teaching you not to read from the ceiling.

Ungrounded reading is fast, leaky, and easily hijacked by want. Grounded reading is slower, kinder, and more willing to see what is actually drawn.

If you read for others, grounding is part of not taking them home. If you read for yourself, grounding is part of not disappearing into the spread.

Put both feet on the floor. If you are curled up, uncurl. Feel the contact. Heels. Balls of the feet. Toes.

Feel the weight of your seat in the chair. You are held up. You do not have to hold yourself up with your shoulders. Drop them.

Breathe out through the mouth once. Then three slower breaths, longer on the way out. Let the exhale be the arriving.

Name, out loud if you can: three things you can see, two you can hear, one you can feel. Ordinary objects. No poetry required.

Place a hand on the deck or on the table. You are about to look. That is enough.
