Beginning

Aces, The Fool, a seed, a first look over a battlement. Something has not happened yet, and might.

Beginning is energy at the first yes. Unformed, or just formed. It is not a guarantee of the next nine numbers.

What this is

A spark, a seed, an open road, a gift from a cloud. Fool. Aces. Two of Wands as a start that has not left the wall. Ask what has not begun, and what has.

Why it matters

If you tattoo new beginning on every Ace you will miss isolation, will, and the fact that a seed can be dropped. If you fear beginnings you will stay in nines forever.

How to recognise it

Small bags, one object, open sky, a cliff, a hand from a cloud, a first plant. The picture is more threshold than room.

How to use it

Ask what is being offered as a start, and whether anyone will tend it. A beginning in advice is different from a beginning in a past position. Position is the rest of the verb.

Light

A true start. Trust. Initiative. A gift received. Beginner's mind that is not a performance.

Shadow

False starts. Performing a beginning so you do not have to stay. Recklessness. A seed you never plant. All about the spark.

Example

The Fool: one foot toward air, a small bag, a dog, mountains behind. Beginning as unformed potential. Is this person free, or unmoored. The energy of beginning does not answer that. The picture and the question do.

Practice

Threshold or room

Pull a card. Write whether it feels like a beginning. Point to why. Then write what tending this start would actually look like this week, or write that this card is not a start.
