Stagnation
Stagnation is energy that has stopped circulating. It is not the same as stillness. Stillness can be alive. Stagnation has gone stale.
What this is
Four of Cups. Eight of Swords as a bind that has become a room. A habit loop. Devil as a pattern. Ask what is not moving that wants to.
Why it matters
If you cannot name stale, you will keep pulling extra cards to make a stuck table exciting. The stuckness is the reading.
How to recognise it
Repeated walls, unmoving water, a figure who will not turn the head, cups ignored, a loop in the objects. Feel the air in the picture. Flat is information.
How to use it
Name the stale thing kindly. Then ask whether it needs a turn, a door, a rest, or a true end. Do not shame it. Do not decorate it as a sacred pause if the water is not moving.
Light
Honest recognition that circulation has stopped. A chance to turn. The dignity of saying this is stale.
Shadow
Sulking as a lifestyle. Identity as the one who will not move. Calling a rut fate. Stagnation as safety.
Example
Four of Cups: a figure, three cups, one offered, a tree. Stagnation of appetite, or a true no. The quality is unmoving want. Whether that is discernment or sulk is face, question, and neighbours.

Pull a card. Write whether any energy is stagnant, and how you can tell from the picture. Distinguish it from living stillness if you can. Then interpret.
