Meditation

Shower

Water, heat, a closed door. A sit you can do before work. Skin as the practice.

A shower is already a threshold. You can use it to arrive in the day, or to leave a reading on the tiles.

What this is

Feeling water. Temperature. Breath in a small room. When the to-do list arrives, come back to the heat on your shoulders. You are not improving the shower. You are noticing it.

Why it matters

If you only meditate when the house is quiet and the lighting is kind, you will wait a long time. The shower is a door most people already walk through.

How to recognise it

You are in the water, or you are already at the meeting. Coming back to the body is the muscle. Same muscle you use when a story tries to hijack a spread.

How to use it

One minute of the shower with no plot. If you have just read, let the water be the close: this is not sitting on me. If you are about to read, let it be the arrive. Then dry, dress, look at a mug. You are here.

Light

A body returned to itself. A day with an edge. Kindness that does not need a script.

Shadow

Endless hot water as hide. Rehearsing speeches. Turning a rinse into a complicated rite. Skipping the rest of aftercare because the shower felt like enough magic.

Example

You read at the table, then shower, then tea. The water ended the reading more honestly than another card would have. Tomorrow you could do the same in three minutes at a sink if the day is thin.

Practice

One minute of water

In your next shower or wash, give one full minute to temperature and breath with no plot. After, write one sentence about what pulled you away, and whether you came back. Optional: one card after you are dry.

Reflection

Can you let water be a practice, or do you only count it when you have named it spiritual?
