Course/Chakras and Body Awareness/The seven centres

Part 05

Throat

Voice, truth, the thing unsaid.

Observe first. Interpret second. Research third.

The theme

Throat, in this map, is expression. Voice. Truth. The thing said, and the thing swallowed. Listening as well as speaking. The question: what needs to be said, and can it be said kindly and clearly?

Silence can be peace. Silence can be fear. Speech can be a true sentence. Speech can be a weapon. The centre does not choose. You do.

Where people point

In this educational map, people usually point to the throat, the neck, the jaw, the mouth. Use that as a reminder of voice, not as a medical fact about your body.

A lump, a cough, words you rehearse in the shower, a tight jaw: all of that can live here. A sore throat can be winter. Do not turn every swallow into a blocked centre. Do notice if you lose your voice every time a certain person rings.

Colour in this map

Blue is the traditional teaching colour in this map. Sky, river, a clear note. It is a memory aid, not a medical fact, and it is not a rule for your clothes.

If blue never speaks to you, you can still work with throat as speech and listening. Colour is a teaching tool. It's not a test.

Body awareness

Throat, neck, jaw, mouth. A lump. A cough. Words you rehearse in the shower. Silence that is peace, or silence that is fear.

A sore throat can be winter. Do not turn every swallow into a blocked centre. Do notice if you lose your voice every time a certain person rings.

Light

True speech. Kind speech. Silence that is chosen. Listening. A reading spoken without theatre and without cowardice.

Throat light can look like the sentence you finally say, the email you send once, the song, the question asked without a speech attached, the quiet you chose.

Shadow

Gossip. Cruel honesty as a hobby. Swallowing the true sentence. Performing a spiritual voice. Tight jaw as a lifestyle. Throat as a weapon.

Shadow also lives in talking so that you never have to listen, and in a spiritual voice that will not say the ordinary thing.

Nourishing foods in this map

Some traditions pair this centre with teas, honey, fruit, soups, and food that is simple to eat. That pairing is a way of paying attention to voice and ease. It is not medicine. Eating them will not physically heal a chakra.

Eat like a person. A slow cup of tea is throat practice if you are actually in it. Do not treat a fruit as a cure, and do not skip a doctor for a sore throat because a map mentioned honey.

Practices you can actually do

Meditation: sit and feel the throat and jaw. Unclench. Breathe. You do not have to make a sound. Space for a true sentence, including silence.

Visualisation: a clear blue channel if colour helps, or a door in the throat that can open and close. Kindness in the picture, not a blade.

Movement: hum. Sigh. Roll the neck gently. Speak one true sentence out loud to the room. Stretch the jaw. Drink a glass of water slowly.

Reflection: write the sentence you have not said. Then ask whether it needs saying, and whether it needs saying now, and whether it can be kind as well as true.

Energy work and self-care: say it, or wait on purpose. Chosen silence for ten minutes. Listen to someone without preparing your reply. Do not use a pretty card as permission to dump.

How this can meet tarot

Swords of speech. Page of Swords. Knight of Swords. Ace of Swords. Three of Swords as a truth that already landed. The Magician as directed word. Judgement as a call. Pages with news. The reading that needs to be said kindly. Ask: is this card about voice, or am I just thinking about my own unsent message?

Ace of Swords, a word with an edge

A blade, a crown, a hand from a cloud. Throat light: a clean sentence, a decision spoken. Throat shadow: a cut you will call honesty. The centre does not choose. You do, with the question in your mouth.

Practice

Say it, then a card

Write the sentence you have not said. Out loud if you can. Then pull a card: what happens if I say this? Read the card as counsel for speech, including the counsel to wait. Do not use a pretty card as permission to dump.

Reflection

What are you swallowing, and what are you saying that is sharper than the truth requires?
